BMX Helmets
Skate-style BMX helmets with full-coverage protection for the park and street. Ask Cranks Chatswood about current stock.
Choosing a BMX helmet
BMX and skate-style helmets sit lower at the back and sides of the head than a road or commuter helmet, giving more coverage for the falls that come with jumps, ramps and park riding.
What to look for
- Certification: for riding on roads and paths in Australia, the helmet must be certified to AS/NZS 2063.
- Fit: it should sit level, about two fingers above the eyebrows, and not rock forward or back when you shake your head.
- Straps: the side straps meet just below the ears, and the chin strap is snug with one finger of space.
- Full face: for racing and bigger jumps, a full-face helmet adds chin and face protection.
Sizing
Measure around the head just above the eyebrows and compare it with the brand's size chart, or come in and try a few on. Skate-style helmets often run a little rounder than other helmets, so trying them on really helps.
